During our visit to Poland, we went to Tunisia for few days (after all, how long can you stay with your family, lol). It was our first, and I hope not the last encounter with Africa, and although Tunisia is touristy as hell, you can still find interesting things to see and do.

We decided to take a few days for a layover in London, on our way to visit Andrzej's family in Poland. There's so much to see and do in London, we really didn't have enough time to do the city justice, but we managed to hit the highlights and had a great time. The center is actually much bigger than we thought but the hop on/hop off tourist bus was a big help in getting us around quickly. We found the people to be quite friendly and we had incredible weather. I didn't have a camera with me (I know, crazy, right?!) but Andrzej got some great shots.

One of the most recognizable peak in the Canadian Rockies, dominating the Lake Louise skyline, Mount Temple (3,543 m). It’s a treat for every serious hiker. The trail is relatively easy to navigate, but you need to watch out for falling rocks and slippery snowfields. Big elevation gain (1,690 m) and some tricky climbing sections over rock bands, so the day was long and tiring, but the view from the summit will make you forget about all of it.

If you ever want to see bears in Canada, Waterton is a great choice, they're everywhere! This is a beautiful part of Alberta, and not as popular as Banff, so it's well worth the drive if you're visiting the province (3 hrs from Calgary). The scenery is absolutely spectacular. Waterton Lakes National Park borders Montana’s Glacier National Park and is known for its chain of lakes, including the large Upper and Middle Waterton lakes, flanked by the Rocky Mountains. Waterton is just a small hamlet but has quite a few options for dining and accommodation. There's a beautiful, historic hotel, with incredible views, and great camping. And there's plenty of outdoor activities to keep the whole family entertained. We enjoyed driving around with our cameras, and doing some hiking.

I'm back from a longer trip to the Columbia Icefield. It was an eventful trip (see below for link to full story), but I didn’t achieve much. I hope I do better next time, lol.

A longer text here.

I tried to climb Mount Hector (3,394 m) last weekend, but totally crazy weather and zero visibility forced me to turn around at the Hector Glacier, which was full of crevasses. I have to go back, it’s a very nice summit.

The weather has been rather miserable lately. In order not to spend Canada Day only eating and drinking beer, I went to the Robertson-Haig Pass (2900 m, elevation gain 990 m), in Kananaskis. Crossing the Robertson Glacier was an adventure on its own. I managed to survive though, lol.

I did the Silverhorn route (III AD 35-45 degrees) on Mount Athabasca (3491 m, elevation gain 1566 m). The key difficulties are 300+ meters of 45 degrees ice. The day was beautiful and, surprisingly, there were a few people on the peak (most of them did the Normal route).

Mount Athabasca is probably the most popular "big" mountain in the Rockies, so sometimes you may see another climbing party. This rarely happens on other mountains. Well, there are many of them in this country and not that many people, lol.

I climbed the north peak of Mount Edith (2554 m, elevation gain 1120 m) last weekend. I followed an easy trail to Cory Pass, and then the ridge to the summit. The several meter long chimney leading to the top was icy, and climbing it took some effort.

A few photos from my early spring hikes. There's still a lot of snow in the mountains this year, so there's no point in doing anything serious. I hiked to the summit of EEOR (East End Of Rundle) near Canmore, and, in waist-deep snow, to the Ink Spots and Ribbon Falls (or rather ice falls) in Kananaskis.
